In October 2026, Suno is the better choice if you want to release what you make: it runs a brand-new model family (v6, launched September 9, 2026), and songs made on its Pro and Premier plans can be downloaded and used commercially. Udio still works for creating and sharing inside Udio, but audio, video and stem downloads have been switched off since October 29, 2025 while it builds a licensed platform with Universal Music, so new Udio songs can't leave the platform.
That's the headline. Below is the full comparison: models, official pricing, vocals, hook-writing tools and where each company stands legally, with every product fact checked on official pages on October 28, 2026.

Suno vs Udio pricing (official pages, checked October 28, 2026)
The price points are identical. What you get for them isn't.
| Plan | Price (USD) | Credits | Song downloads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Suno Free | $0 | 50 a day (about 10 songs) | None monthly |
| Suno Pro | $10 a month, or $96 a year | 2,500 a month | 20 a month |
| Suno Premier | $30 a month, or $288 a year | 10,000 a month | 60 a month; Suno Studio work isn't limited |
| Udio Free | $0 | 10 a day, plus 100 a month | Disabled |
| Udio Standard | $10 a month, or $96 a year | 2,400 a month | Disabled |
| Udio Pro | $30 a month, or $288 a year | 6,000 a month | Disabled |
How far credits go: one Suno generation makes two songs for 10 credits. On Udio, two 32-second clips cost 2 credits and two 2:10 songs cost 4, and free accounts are limited to three full-length generations a day. Neither service rolls unused monthly credits over. Suno calculates taxes at checkout, and Udio's help center explains a student discount. Prices change, so confirm them at checkout.
Suno vs Udio: which is better?
It depends on what the song is for:
- Releasing on Spotify or YouTube, or entering contests: Suno. You need a downloadable file and commercial rights, and of the two, only a paid Suno plan gives you both today.
- The newest model: Suno. v6 arrived in September 2026; the newest model in Udio's help center, v1.5 Allegro, shipped in March 2025.
- Long songs in one pass: Suno, at up to 8 minutes per generation against Udio's 2:10 plus extensions.
- Cheap sketching inside an app: either. Two 32-second Udio clips cost 2 credits, which suits auditioning a chorus idea, and Suno's free v6-mini gives you about 10 songs a day.
- Legal certainty: neither. Both have licensing deals and open lawsuits (details below). This isn't legal advice; read the current terms before you release anything.
Suno vs Udio for vocals
We won't name a winner on raw vocal quality. It's subjective, and the two are now a model generation apart. What we can compare is control:
- Suno has a Vocal Gender setting, Personas that save a song's vocals and style for reuse, Voices that let Pro and Premier users record or upload their own singing voice after a verification step, and Custom Models trained on your own catalog. Suno also recommends Max Mode when vocals must stay consistent across a long track.
- Udio has Voices too, but you choose from a voice library or one of your own Udio songs; its help center says you can't upload your own voice as a source. You can blend two voice references and set their strength, and Udio documents parentheses for backing vocals and spelling tricks for pronunciation.
If your own voice is part of the project, Suno is the only one of the two that lets you sing on your songs today. For everything else, the fair test is the same lyric and the same style prompt in both, judged blind.
Suno vs Udio for hooks
Writing a hook means reworking one short section until it sticks. The two tools help in different ways:
- Udio's strengths: it officially documents bracket guidance tags, including
[Chorus]and[Hook], with the caveat that the AI makes the final decision. Its 32-second generations are a cheap way to audition a chorus, and Inpaint lets you redo one passage. - Suno's strengths: v6 can rewrite one section from a plain-language instruction or change a single lyric without rebuilding the song. Replace Section and the Song Editor let you swap, move and regenerate parts, and the Hooks feed shows how a clip lands with other Suno users.
- The deciding factor: testing a hook on real listeners outside the app requires a file, and of the two, only Suno lets you export one today.
Our practical take: Udio is a fine sketchpad for a chorus, and Suno is where you can finish, download and release it. Once the song is out, put its chorus in front of people who don't know you: enter it on HOOKFIGHTS for free and it battles another AI hook in a blind vote. HOOKFIGHTS is independent and not affiliated with Suno or Udio. For more on Suno's in-app clips, see Suno Hooks explained.
Suno and Udio licensing status in 2026
Suno
- Warner Music Group: partnership announced November 25, 2025; Warner settled its part of the 2024 label lawsuit.
- BMG (August 12, 2026) and Believe and TuneCore (September 8, 2026): partnerships tied to Suno's industry-developed models. Suno says tracks made with its new industry partner model become eligible for distribution through Believe and TuneCore.
- v6: Suno says the models were developed with industry partners including Warner, BMG and Believe.
- Terms (effective September 3, 2026): on Pro and Premier, Suno assigns you its rights in your output but doesn't promise that copyright will apply; free-plan output is for personal, non-commercial use.
- Open cases: Universal and Sony's original 2024 suit continues, and on September 18, 2026 they filed a second suit in Massachusetts federal court that targets v6. In Germany, the Munich Regional Court ruled for the collecting society GEMA on July 31, 2026; the judgment is first-instance and not final, and Suno said it would explore its options, including an appeal.
Udio
- Universal Music Group: settled and partnered on October 29, 2025. Udio switched off downloads that day, then reopened them for a 48-hour window starting November 3, 2025, covered by its earlier terms.
- Warner Music Group: settled and partnered on November 19, 2025.
- Merlin (January 2026) and Kobalt (April 2026): further licensing deals.
- Sony: still litigating.
- The new platform: Universal and Udio said a licensed subscription service would launch in 2026, with the current product kept in a "walled garden" during the transition. As of October 28, 2026, Udio's blog and help center have not announced that launch.
Which should you choose?
- You want to release songs and build a catalog: Suno Pro or Premier, and plan around 20 or 60 downloads a month.
- You want to sketch for free: Suno Free (v6-mini) or Udio Free. Neither lets you use what you make commercially.
- You want to sing on your own songs: Suno, with Voices on a paid plan.
- You're waiting for licensed artist-voice features: Udio's licensed platform is promised for 2026, and Suno says it is developing opt-in experiences with artists. Neither has launched.

Frequently asked questions
Is Suno or Udio better in 2026?
For releasing music, Suno: it has the newer model (v6, September 2026), and its paid plans include downloads with commercial rights. Udio's downloads have been disabled since October 29, 2025, so new Udio songs stay on Udio.
Can you download songs from Udio in 2026?
No. Udio disabled audio, video and stem downloads on October 29, 2025 after its Universal Music settlement, and as of October 28, 2026 they remain off while it prepares a licensed platform.
How much do Suno and Udio cost?
Both charge $10 a month for the entry paid tier (Suno Pro, Udio Standard) and $30 a month for the top tier (Suno Premier, Udio Pro), or $96 and $288 billed yearly. Both also have free plans.
Which is better for vocals, Suno or Udio?
Quality is subjective, but Suno offers more vocal control in 2026: a Vocal Gender setting, Personas, Custom Models and Voices for your own singing voice. Udio's Voices uses library voices or your own Udio songs and doesn't accept an upload of your voice.
Are Suno and Udio still being sued?
Yes. Universal and Sony are still suing Suno, which also lost a first-instance ruling to GEMA in Germany in July 2026, and Sony is still suing Udio. Suno settled with Warner; Udio settled with Universal and Warner.
